Introduction to Hitech Mixed Metal Oxide (MMO) Technology

HiTech MMO™ is a new generation of Mixed Metal Oxide (MMO). It has been manufactured specifically for use as a bentonite extender in the HiTech MMO™ water based fluid system. HiTech MMO™ will complex with bentonite providing exceptional carrying capacity and elevated yet flat LSRV rheology. The HiTech MMO™ system is stable at temperatures of 400 ºF or below.

Add HiTech MMO™ through the chemical barrel. HiTech MMO™ is typically used at a 1.0 : 10.0 ppb ratio with prehydrated bentonite. Peptized bentonite will reduce the complexing efficiency of HiTech MMO™; therefore non beneficiated bentonite is suggested. The HiTech MMO™ system can be fresh water, sea water or saturated salt water based. API fluid loss control is obtained with HiTech MLT-1™ when BHT’s are below 250 ºF. For BHT’s above 250 ºF and below 400 ºF the products HiTech MHT-1™ and HiTech MHT-2™ are to be employed. HiTech MMO™ offers good clay inhibition properties supplemented with limited hydraulic erosion due to the rheology of the system. In applications where highly sensitive clays are to be encountered the additive HiTech SI-2™ will provide superior inhibition.

HiTech MLT-1™ is not compatible with most anionic additives such as PAC, CMC, etc. Employ such additives with caution and only after pilot testing.
